About Us
UNCC Horsepower Addicts (HPA) is a student organization that was officially started during the Fall of 2006. It was created as a place for students to come and enjoy their similar interests in the world of automotive performance. Whether is be for cars, trucks, or SUVs, this is the place to share your knowledge and learn as you go. Not only do we have weekly car meets ever Friday night on campus, but we also host multiple events throughout the year. We invite you to learn more about us and we encourage you to join us at our meets so that you too can be a part of this exciting organization.
History of HPA
HPA was started as a Facebook group by Phil Kingsbury during the 2004-2005 school year. When it started, it was known as UNCC Horsepower Addicts Anonymous (HPAA). It was created to bring about the passion of performance vehicles between students at UNC Charlotte. During the next year, a few of the Facebook group members decided to meet up on campus on Thursday nights. These meets consisted of just hanging out, chatting about cars, and just having fun. Eventually, the group started going to Mooresville Dragway to see what their cars were made of. During the Fall of 2006, these original members, along with new members, decided to see what it would take to make HPAA an official student organization at UNCC. It proved to be a viable opportunity, especially with the school-funded educational events. Within a couple of months, Horsepower Addicts was born. As the years go on, members of HPA continue to make it an opportunity for students who share the same interests in vehicles and automotive performance. News of HPA continues to spread, with other universities creating new chapters and adding to the excitement that began at UNCC.
