Big Changes for Spring 2010

January 5, 2010

Our Fall 2009 semester proved to be a step in right direction. We gained many new members to the organization, as well as many new users on our forum. We also hosted a dyno day on December 12th, which was huge success. This was our first event in over a year and a half. The dyno day was hosted at Six Sigma Dyno Services in Concord. The shop proved to be a wonderful place for an event with a relaxed atmosphere and fun by all. We will attempt to host another dyno day this coming semester at Six Sigma. In addition to the dyno day, we will try to put together a track day at Mooresville Dragway and a car show on campus toward the end of the semester. The car show will be an annual event to kick off the end of the year. Our biggest change this semester will be our weekly car meets. Our first two meets will be the last two Fridays of January, the 22nd and 29th. Beginning in February, our meets will no longer be weekly. They will also be held at a new time and at a new location on campus. We will hold car meets in Lot 6 at 7:00 PM on the first and third Fridays of every month. We will also hold our meets on any applicable fifth Friday. For Spring 2010, this means in April 30th. At the end of the semester, we will evaluate how this went and decide if it is a schedule we should keep for upcoming years. On the second Friday of each month, we are planning on hosting small activities on campus or off. These include bowling off campus, billiards in the Student Union, a movie (free to students) in the Union, or other things we may come across. For these activities, we will meet at 7:00 PM in Lot 6, and at 7:30 PM, we will head to our destination. All of these things are being put in place this semester to help bring change to HPA. Our members have said that they want more things to do so we asked what they wanted. Here is just a little bit of it. We hope everyone enjoys what we have to offer this semester!

New Year, New Opportunities!

August 3, 2009

The 2008-2009 academic year was a mess for the members of HPA. After being accused of street racing, UNCC put us on suspension as they underwent an investigation, eventually proving that we had no connection to the street racing bust of August 2008. After we were cleared for registration for the year, we went through much chaos finding an advisor wiling to support us. By the time we found one, the year was just about over. We look back on that year realizing all the opportunities that we missed. One little mistake is all it takes to change us, or anyone else for that matter. This year, we will begin reorganizing HPA in an effort to grow the club, hopefully leading to a lifetime of success for our current and future members. With a new website and forum, we will channel information for efficiently to each of our members and the community. The new student union will allow HPA to explore many exciting opportunities and will give us new ways to hang out and meet on Friday nights. Our new officers will develop strategies to grow our club, adding new members and building a relationship with the community. Each of these methods will help rebuild HPA and bring back the ideas that our founding officers had in store for the club.

Officers Determined for the 2009-2010 Academic Year

August 3, 2009

Our officers for the 2009-2010 academic year have been determined. Originally, we had planned to allow our 2008-2009 officers to stay in position for the new school year. This was due to a non-existent Fall semester and a very short Spring semester. Keeping the officers would have allowed sufficient time as official officers. However, two of our officers left UNCC to pursue degrees at other universities. At the same time, our president, Johnny Cromer, decided to step down from his position, feeling as though he was not the best person for the job. Johnny will take on the position of Treasurer, while Mike Redwine will join the officers as Vice President. Glenn Luisi will be stepping up from Secretary to take over the position of President for HPA. We will not have a Secretary during the 2009-2010 academic year due to the lack of need for four officers at the current time. These officers have each shown an extreme amount of determination to continue on with HPA, despite the many obstacles and challenges that we have been dealt throughout the last year.

News 14 Visits HPA Car Meet

January 23, 2009

On January 23, 2009, New 14 Carolina visited our Friday night car meet to obtain some information about our ability to reregister as a student organization at UNCC. Interviews with both our president Johnny Cromer and vice president Ryan VanGilder along with video footage of our members meeting in the parking deck gave the news crews enough information to share with the local community on television. The news was broadcast live at 9:00 PM that night from in front of East Deck 3 on campus, where we were meeting on the first level. The news clips included footage of prior clips from August, when the street racing bust on I-485 occurred. This news footage helped to share with the local community that HPA was not involved in any illegal street racing acts. Click here to watch the clip of the news broadcast.

New Server & Website

January 12, 2009

HPA's forum is now being hosted on a new server. Our previous hosting service was operated by Bozidar Tatarevic, a student at UNCC who helped us start our forum and gave us our own space on the Internet. He was not a regular member of HPA therefore we could not easily update the forum when we needed to. We are now hosting our forum through a new web hosting service under the operation of Glenn Luisi, a regular member for the past three years. In addition to the new server space, we now have the website you are currently looking at. We used to have a single webpage with information on where we met. However, we now have a full website, with a link to our forum, with many details about HPA, the events we partake in, our weekly car meets, upcoming events, and member profiles of most current and past members. Feel free to browse our new website as we continue to work on it and bring plenty more info to the outside world.

HPA Not Connected To I-485 Street Racing Bust

November 13, 2008

UNC Charlotte has officially determined to remove the suspension from HPA after reviewing the information brought to them about our possible connection to the street racing bust in August of 2008 on I-485. UNCC has declared that there was not enough evidence to link us to the bust. As all of the HPA members know, we were not in any way connected to the street racing bust on the night of August 15, when a series of races were held between the I-85 and Mint Hill exits after a meeting in the Union Deck of UNCC. News crews immediately began to bring up HPA as the culprit to this meeting and the races. The university has reviewed the situation and has determined that we were not at fault.
